Calgary Police have charged Byron Arnold Blanchard in the death of Joshua Hogarth, the city’s sixth homicide of the year.

Blanchard was taken by police shortly after the incident happened and was questioned as a 'person of interest' for some time before he was formally arrested and charged.

Blanchard faces charges of second degree murder.

Hogarth was found dead Tuesday morning, outside of a condo in Acadia.

Police aren’t saying how the 18-year-old died but are expected to release more information sometime later on Thursday.

Hogarth’s friends say they are devastated by the loss. “He came back to visit us all. We just went out. He just turned 18. He was enjoying his hometown and this happened. He was an amazing kid.”

Another friend says Blanchard and Hogarth knew each other since he was seven years old.

The incident shocked the close-knit group of friends who knew both men.

They say that they were out together and something came between them.

Blanchard is expected in court on August 28.
