A man in his 20s was seriously injured after crashing his car into a tree on Sunday night.

Emergency crews were called to Temple Drive and 52 Street NE at about 10:00 p.m. for reports of a collision.

Fire crews found a man trapped inside a heavily damaged Toyota Echo when they arrived and had to cut him out of the wreck.

Police say the man in his 20s was conscious and breathing but severely injured. He was taken to hospital by EMS.

Witnesses say that the vehicle was speeding southbound on 52 Street when the driver lost control.

The vehicle left the road and hit two trees, sheering off the first before coming to rest against the second.

52 Street was closed to traffic but has since been reopened.
