A Calgary man is in hospital in critical condition after he was pulled from the swirling water beneath the weir in Wyndham Carseland Provincial Park.
RCMP was called to the area at about 4:00 p.m. on Sunday for a water rescue.
Police say that two men were trying to guide their raft over the weir and were thrown from the raft.
One man managed to swim to shore but the second man was stuck in the heavy current. He was able to pull himself back into the boat and wait for rescuers.
After about 90 minutes, a Search and Rescue team was able to get to the man but was unable to rescue him and he was pulled under the water.
Emergency crews were able to grab a hold of him when he resurfaced and take him to shore.
The 26-year-old man from Calgary was taken to Foothills Medical Centre by STARS and remains in critical condition.
High River RCMP is investigating the incident.
