A smash and grab spree in the City of Calgary came to a screeching halt for one group of thieves after one of their gang was injured during one of their heists.

At about 5:30 a.m., a truck arrived at the Rockyview General Hospital with a number of people inside.

The driver of the truck and another accomplice fled the scene on foot after leaving a third man, suffering from life-threatening injuries, behind to be treated by staff.

Police managed to track down the driver and the accomplice, but say they're still looking for a fourth man.

Investigators say the group was using a stolen truck to ram their way into several businesses overnight when it's likely that the injured man, who has not yet been formally arrested, was run over.

They believe the man was injured at a Liquor Depot location in Ogden. Two other businesses, a Shell station on Blackfoot Trail and a Video Max store on James McKevitt Road, were also robbed by the same method.

"The pedestrian was part of a crew that was involved in the smash and grab and he may have been run over by the offending vehicle," says Sergeant Colin Foster with the CPS Traffic Unit. "At this stage, he is in critical condition. We do have the vehicle involved in this collision, but there are still people outstanding and we're looking for them at this moment."

The patient was transported to Foothills Hospital later on Tuesday morning.

No one else was injured as a result of the incidents.
