A 40-year-old man has been injured in an explosion at Cathedral Energy Services in southeast Calgary on Thursday.

The explosion occurred at around 9:30 a.m. at the company's office located at 6030 3 St. S.E.

The injured man was transported to hospital by EMS in stable condition.  The content of the battery burned the man's exposed skin. 

Police and fire crews say a lithium battery on the premises exploded.

Approximately 70 employees were evacuated from Cathedral and the surrounding businesses.

According to their corporate website, Cathedral Energy Services is a drilling and completion company established in 2000.

An investigation into the cause of the explosion is underway.
