Calgary fire crews were called to help a man who was hit by a falling piece of glass while working early Thursday morning.

The man was working on a temporary scaffold at the Core Shopping Centre at around 4 a.m. when a piece of glass fell from a skylight and hit him in the head.

He was in the food court area of TD Square when the accident occurred.

Crews said a piece of glass detached on one side and then swung on its hinges, hitting the man in the head.

The high angle rescue team was called to the scene to get the man to safety.

“They put the individual into a stroke stretcher. Our friends from Stampede Crane were on site here working at the location so we raised him up through the window that had been broken in,” says Battalion Chief Ernie Molineaux.

The man was taken to hospital in non-life-threatening condition.

Occupational Health and Safety is investigating the incident.
