A man who was involved in a serious crash on Deerfoot Trail on Friday morning has died of his injuries, police confirm.

At approximately 7:45 a.m., police say a 2005 Honda Accord was southbound on Deerfoot Trail near Seton Boulevard when the vehicle went off the road.

It struck a large pole in the centre median, splitting into several pieces on impact.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident.

EMS say the sole occupant, a 29-year-old man, was pulled from the wreckage by bystanders prior to their arrival.

Those same bystanders administered first aid until EMS and STARS Air Ambulance arrived to transport the victim to South Health Campus in life threatening condition.

The victim later died in hospital. His identity has not been released.

Police say speed is believed to be a factor in the crash.

The CPS Traffic Section is continuing to investigate.

Witnesses to the incident are asked to contact Constable Greene at 403-567-4000.
