Police are investigating whether or not alcohol played a role in a fatal crash near the community of Swalwell on Wednesday night.

At about 9:30 p.m., emergency crews were called to the scene of a crash on Highway 21 and Township Road 300.

Beiseker RCMP say that a westbound pickup truck failed to stop at the intersection before crossing Highway 21 and drove right into the path of a southbound pickup truck.

The driver and lone occupant of the westbound truck, a 21-year-old male, formerly of Beiseker, died at the scene.

The driver of the southbound truck was taken to hospital in Three Hills with minor injuries.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash.

The identity of the deceased has not been released.
