Strathmore RCMP has a mystery on its hands.

Last Wednesday a severely injured man was found unconscious on the side of the road on Highway One and RCMP doesn’t know how or even exactly when the man was hurt.

The man was lying on the shoulder of road on eastbound Highway One near the Paradise Road turnoff, approximately five kilometres east of the Calgary City limits.

Someone driving by saw what they thought was a body and called 911.

RCMP and EMS found the man about 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday; he was in critical condition.

He’s now been upgraded to serious but stable and remains in hospital.

RCMP officers don’t know how the man was injured and Constable Clint Chisan said he can’t even speculate but did say “the injuries are not consistent with an impact.”

They do know the injured man is homeless and is often in the area. His luggage was nearby when he was found.

RCMP officers are trying to find the man’s next of kin.

They are also trying to find anyone who might have seen something or someone in the area that night.
