Calgary police spent several hours in a tense standoff early Saturday morning after someone reported seeing a man with a shotgun enter a northwest hotel.

Police were called to the Four Points Sheraton in the 8200 block of Bowridge Crescent NW around 4:30 a.m.

The man allegedly went to a room where his ex-girlfriend was staying.

Police say she was with another man. He was allowed to leave the room unharmed.

When officers arrived, they cleared the adjacent suites and the negotiations unit spoke with the offender.

The tact team and canine units were also on scene.

Acting Staff Duty Sargent Thor Bahl said no one was hurt in the standoff.

“The offender was negotiated out of the room once police made contact with him… through our tactical negotiators and surrendered himself without incident,” said Bahl.

The man surrendered around 9:30 a.m.

Charges are pending.
