The Calgary Police Service unit has turned to the public in an attempt to identify the person responsible for three fires, believed to have been deliberately set, to a northeast home.

In the late hours of March 29, fire crews were called to a home on Marbank Way Northeast after a fire was set in a garbage can. The flames had spread to a neighbouring fence and Calgary Fire Department members extinguished the fire without incident.

Three days later, firefighters were called to the same home in the early morning hours of April 1. Crews discovered the back of the home on fire. The blaze was extinguished but the fire caused an estimated $20,000 in damage to the residence.

In the evening hours of April 5, another fire was set to the exterior of the home. Fire crews doused the flames. The damage to the home in the third fire is estimated at $150,000.

A CPS arson unit investigation determined all three fires were acts of arson and the residents of the home were being targeted. Investigators have not determined the motive behind the fire attacks and are working with the residents to develop a safety plan should the arsonist make additional attempts at setting the house on fire.

Investigators have located surveillance images and video clips of a person of interest in connection with the fires.

Anyone with information about the fires or the identity of the person in the surveillance camera recordings is asked to contact the Calgary Police Service, 403-266-1234, or Crime Stoppers.
