The woman who pleaded guilty in the death of a 19-month-old girl left in her care has been sentenced to just over three years in prison.

Erin Jackman was originally charged with manslaughter in the death of Mercedes Pepper but pleaded guilty to criminal negligence back in September.

The child suffered fatal head injuries while at Jackman’s home in the summer of 2010.

Mercedes died two days later in a Calgary hospital of blunt force trauma to the head.

Jackman originally claimed that Mercedes fell and hit her head while playing.

She later confessed that she pushed the little girl into a door while trying to force her into a timeout.

Jackman will spend the next three and a half years in jail.
