An Airdrie man has been arrested and charged with human trafficking related offences in connection to the investigation into a missing girl.

According to RCMP spokesperson Sharon Franks, a girl from Airdrie was reported missing earlier this year. During the investigation into the disappearance, RCMP members determined the girl had been working as a prostitute and had been transported between Airdrie and another city within Alberta.

Officers located the missing person, whose age has not been released, at an undisclosed location and reunited her with her family.

Police determined a 25-year-old Airdrie man had been trafficking the missing girl.

The accused, who cannot been named in order to protect the identity of a witness under the age of 18, remains in police custody and faces charges of:

  • Living on the avails of prostitution of a person under eighteen
  • Assault
  • Trafficking a person under eighteen for the purpose of exploiting or facilitating exploitation

The accused, who is known to police, is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, August 4, 2015.
