The president and CEO of Alberta Health Services has announced her resignation, which will become effective in 2016.

Vickie Kaminski joined the AHS in May of last year and while she says she enjoyed her time with the organization, she would be resigning for personal reasons.

“I am quite proud to lead a tremendous team of health care providers and the people who support them to provide quality and safe health care to their fellow Albertans every day. I am also excited that a new Board has been appointed that will work with the Ministry of Health to strengthen AHS as a leading health care organization in the country,” Kaminski said in a release.

Linda Hughes, chair of the AHS board says she accepted Kaminski’s resignation with a good deal of regret.

“Vickie is well respected across the country as a health care leader and I want to acknowledge her commitment to the success of AHS and for her service to Albertans. I look forward to working with her to ensure there is a smooth transition to a new president and CEO.”

During her time as president and CEO, Kaminski took part in the creation of a new board for health care in the province to help officials focus on improving the health of Albertans and the creation of the new 811 HealthLink hotline.

The AHS says they will begin the recruitment process for a new president and CEO immediately.
