A Calgary family had an unexpected visitor Tuesday night.  A coyote bolted into their northwest Calgary home.

David Easthope was in his Arbour Lake home with his nine-month-old daughter when he saw a coyote pacing back and forth on the patio.

David’s wife Meghan Easthope wasn’t at home at the time, but she says David texted her to tell her what was going on, “saying I’m scared, there’s a coyote outside the door.  I don’t know what to do, and I put baby and the cat in the bathroom.”

David Easthope then went to the back door to close it, but to do that he had to open the screen door first to close the solid door.

While he was trying that manoeuver the coyote dashed into the house.

Easthope grabbed the nearby vacuum, turned it on and chased the coyote out the door.

Alberta Fish and Wildlife says coyotes, even in the house, wouldn't necessarily be dangerous as long as they had a way to escape.

However, any wild animal that feels cornered or threatened could become vicious.
