The family of a young man who was found dead in northeast Calgary last week says he had a recent brush with the law shortly before he disappeared.

The body of Colton Crowshoe, 18, was found in a pond in Abbeydale on July 24, about three weeks after he was reported missing on July 4.

Police say that the young man was murdered.

Colton’s father Jimmy says that his son was held in police custody in connection with loitering just two days before he went missing.

He says he came home with bruises and scratches to his face.

“When he came home, his face was all pushed up, scraped. He was crying, the cops that did that to him. Cops wouldn’t give him a badge number,” he told CTV News.

Police released a statement on Tuesday, saying that they will not be addressing or commenting on the allegations. They are remaining focused on the homicide investigation.

They also remind Calgarians that formal processes exist to submit complaints relating to the actions of the CPS.

The cause of Crowshoe’s death is not being released and it’s not clear how long he was dead before his body was found.

Police continue to investigate.
