Police in Lethbridge have issued a warning about the release of a high risk offender into the community and say he poses a significant risk to the community.

Wesley Alfred Arcand, 37, was released from Grande Cache Institution after serving a two-year, four-month sentence for assault causing bodily harm, assault, trafficking in a controlled substance and failing to comply with conditions.

Police say Arcand has a history of violence and information in his file indicates he is a high risk to reoffend.

They say he poses a significant risk of harm to the general community and have released the information in the interest of public safety.

Arcand will be living in the City of Lethbridge under numerous conditions:

  • A daily curfew from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • A prohibition from entering an establishment where the primary purpose is the sale or consumption of alcohol or is regarded as a licensed establishment, including casinos
  • A prohibition from purchasing, possessing or consuming alcohol, intoxicants, inhalants and any drug prohibited under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and prescription drugs unless prescribed by a physician
  • A prohibition from owning, possessing, carrying any firearm, crossbow, prohibited weapon, restricted weapon, prohibited device, ammunition, incendiary material, explosive substance or any other item that could be used as a weapon, including a knife unless for culinary purposes.
