The RCMP in High River say they have laid charges and suspended three drivers in connection with impaired driving that took place over the weekend.

Officers, who stopped a number of drivers on the weekend, say that charges are being laid against two people and three drivers have had their licences suspended.

Of those stopped, one held a Graduated Drivers Licence (GDL), which is particularly damaging to the driver given the circumstances.

According to rules, anyone who holds a GDL licence is not permitted to have any alcohol in their system whatsoever. Failing to follow those rules will result in a 30 day licence suspension and a seven day seizure of their vehicle.

Additionally, the GDL driver must re-apply for their licence as it is destroyed as per provincial legislation.

Police are reminding all drivers that alcohol related offences continue to be a high priority for them.
