A 24-year-old man is facing numerous charges in connection to a drive-by style shooting in the Whitehorn area back in August.

Police were called to the 100 block of Whitehorn Crescent N.E. at about 7:20 p.m. on Saturday, August 15th for reports of shots fired.

Investigators say the shots were fired from a moving vehicle at the victim while he was in his vehicle.

Tarek El-Rafie, 24, of Calgary, was arrested at the Calgary International Airport on November 21st by the Guns and Gangs Unit without incident and is charged with:

  • One count each of discharging a firearm to endanger life
  • Use of a firearm in a careless manner
  • Occupant of a motor vehicle with knowledge of a restricted weapon
  • Possessing a restricted weapon without a license to possess
  • Possessing a restricted weapon without a licence
  • Possessing a restricted weapon without a registration
  • Possessing a restricted weapon knowing that he was not the holder of a licence
  • Dangerous driving
  • Assault of a peace officer to resist arrest
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Resisting arrest
  • Unlawfully escaping custody

Police believe the victim and accused know each other and say the victim was uncooperative in the investigation.

El-Rafie was released on a recognizance order.
