Calgary police descended on a building in the downtown core on Wednesday night after someone told them that explosives were somewhere inside.

At about 8:45 p.m., police in Medicine Hat were told that a bomb was inside the First Canadian Centre on 7 Avenue S.W. in Calgary. The caller said the bomb was set to explode on Thursday.

That information was relayed to the Calgary Police Service and an investigation was initiated.

The Tactical Team, along with a K9 team, was called in to search the building but found nothing.

The scene has been declared secure and has been cleared.

There are reports that the building will remain closed until 10:00 a.m.

Anyone with information about the call is asked to contact police.
