A number of Ontario firefighters will be arriving in Alberta on Friday to aid in the battle against several wildfires burning throughout the province.

Officials say that 126 wildland firefighters will be dispatched to help out with current fires blazing and respond to new ones.

According to the province’s wildfire information website, there have been seven new wildfires reported in the past 24 hours, one of which was human-caused.

Including those new fires, there are 24 active fires in the province right now, all of which are considered held or under control.

Firefighters have put out 555 wildfires, which have consumed about 2,200 hectares of land, in the province so far this year.

The exchange of firefighters and aircraft is made possible through resource-sharing agreements the province has in place with other firefighting agencies across the continent.

In 2014, Alberta sent four airtankers to Alaska, four airtankers and 55 firefighters to Northwest Territories, four airtankers and 62 firefighters to British Columbia, and 22 firefighters to Idaho.

Also in 2014, Ontario sent 117 firefighters to help combat wildfires.
