The owner of a dog that bit a woman in the face at a home in the city’s southeast last week has been charged and the dog is now undergoing an assessment.

Officers from Animal & Bylaw Services were called to a home in the Radisson Heights/Albert Park area at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 18 after a woman suffered serious facial injuries when she was bitten by a dog.

ABS says the pit bull was taken into custody and will be kept in quarantine for 10 days after which it will undergo an assessment.

“Animal & Bylaw Services makes public safety a top priority and aggressive animal behaviour will not be tolerated,” said Damian Cole, manager of South Operations. “Under the Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw, owners are held responsible for the behaviour of their animals and people must be aware of these responsibilities when looking to add a dog to their family.”

A mandatory court appearance is required in all serious aggressive dog incidents and fines could be as high as $10,000.
