The Prentice government announced on Tuesday that they are well on track to complete all of their promised school capital projects on schedule.

Through a $2B investment originally announced last year, the province will be constructing 56 new schools or additions, along with 21 upgrades to existing schools by 2018.

It’s all part of the 2015-20 Capital Plan, and part of a larger promise to complete more than 230 school projects across Alberta, creating 78,000 new student spaces.

“This investment is confirmation for Alberta families and school jurisdictions that we have kept our promise and they have the capital dollars necessary to keep the construction of their school projects moving forward,” Premier Prentice said in a release.

The government has also announced a way for residents to keep tabs on the progress being made on schools throughout the province.

Using a new, interactive, mapping website, Albertans can track the development of schools in their community by searching them on the map.

“The new website enables Albertans to monitor school project status in their neighbourhoods. With spring on its way Albertans are going to see a lot more activity taking place on construction sites throughout the province as more than 100 school projects are expected to open in 2016,” said Infrastructure Minister Manmeet Bhullar.
