Police have shut down an intersection in northeast Calgary after a pedestrian was struck and severely injured after enduring a pair of incidents involving vehicles.

At around 7:45 a.m., police say a 16-year-old male was crossing the road in the area of Beddington Boulevard and Beddington Drive N.E. when he was struck by an eastbound Hummer.

Authorities say that he was not injured in the first incident, and was getting up when a Hyundai Tucson ran into the back of the Hummer, pushing it onto the teen.

The teen was rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition.

EMS say the young man was suffering from significant soft tissue and internal injuries when he was taken to hospital.

The intersection was closed for several hours following the crash.

Police say charges are pending against the driver of the Hyundai Tucson.

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section is investigating and is asking for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them at 403-567-4000.
