A sudden blackout at WinSport in northwest Calgary ended up leaving many people stranded on the ski lift at the resort on Wednesday night.

The outage affected the whole facility at about 6:00 p.m. and included both lifts and the Markin MacPhail Centre.

Staff was able to get a backup generator online to get people on the lifts off safely.

Other workers helped guide vehicles out of the parking lot that had been plunged into darkness.

ENMAX says that the outage was due to a cable fault.

Power was restored about an hour later.
