Police are now investigating the deaths of a mother and son on Tuesday that they believe were both victims of overdoses on street and prescription drugs.

At just before 3:30 a.m. on July 29, emergency crews were called to a location on the Stoney Nakoda First Nation for reports of a man in medical distress.

When they got there, they found an unresponsive man. EMS performed CPR, but the man in his late 20s was later declared dead at the scene. Investigators believe the young man had taken street and non-prescribed prescription drugs, along with some alcohol earlier on Tuesday evening.

Later that same day, at about 8:30 p.m., a woman in her mid-40s was found unresponsive and in medical distress. Family members who found her called for help and administered CPR.

Emergency responders continued to perform CPR, but the woman died about an hour later. They say it’s likely that she also consumed non-prescribed prescription drugs, as there were pill found at the scene.

Officials have confirmed that the two victims are mother and son.

The identities of the victims are not being released that this time and autopsies are scheduled to be conducted next week.

Police remind residents that there is no such thing as a safe street drug and prescribed drugs should only be consumed by those they are prescribed for.
