The advance polls are now closed ahead of Election Day next week, and officials say that a record was broken over the long weekend.
Elections Canada says over 2.4M people voted on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and while the numbers for Thanksgiving Monday haven’t been released, that figure surpasses the ballots cast during the last federal election.
Meanwhile, tracking polls are showing that the Liberals have overtaken the Conservatives as Canada’s party of choice, and the NDP have dropped even further off the radar.
Residents in Calgary who cast their ballots say that voting in this federal election feels a lot different than in other years.
Many say that voters are looking for change and are trying to ensure that their vote doesn’t go to waste.
The advance polls are now closed, but there is still a chance to vote ahead of Election Day on Monday. To do so, you can go to any Elections Canada office and request a special ballot until 6 p.m.
As for the campaign trail, all three of the major party leaders are in southern Ontario on Tuesday, while Green Party leader Elizabeth May is campaigning in B.C.
