Calgary Police are continuing to investigate a shooting that took place in the northeast on Saturday night, another act of violence that has residents very concerned.

At about 8 p.m., police were called to the northeast community of Pineridge after reports of gunfire heard in the area.

When police got to the scene in the 5300 block of Rundlehorn Drive N.E., they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to his torso.

He was transported to hospital by ambulance in serious, potentially life-threatening condition.

Witnesses to the incident say they first heard a gunshot, then a pause, following by three more gunshots.

After that, they spotted an SUV speeding from the scene, leaving a man bleeding in the parking lot.

Residents in the area of the shooting say they are very concerned about the rise in violence over the past several months.

“I’m actually really concerned because it’s the second time and my niece and my sister are not in a really good area,” says Courtney Couterielle.

Fidel Assad says he doesn’t feel safe anymore in the community. “You can be shot by going shopping, going to school. It’s getting worse.”

Police say they’ve linked three previous shootings this year to an ongoing dispute between rival drug dealers.

Investigators have not yet connected this most recent shooting with that conflict.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Calgary Police Service, 403-266-1234, or anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers.
