The man who killed Medicine Hat nursing student Amy Lewis has been sentenced to seven years but will serve about four and a half years after being credited for time served.

Amy Lenora Lewis, 23, was last heard from on June 11, 2012 and police located her vehicle in the parking lot of the Parklane Motel in Medicine Hat a few days later.

Jerrison Herve Stopanski was arrested the same day the vehicle was recovered and later charged with second-degree murder.

Lewis’ body has never been found and the charges were laid based on DNA evidence.

Stopanski, 36, pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter earlier this week but has still not given investigators any clues as to Lewis’ whereabouts.

On Thursday, he was sentenced to seven years in jail but that time will be reduced with credit for time served.
