The City of Calgary has unveiled its list of communities set to receive new skateparks by the fall of 2014.

The three neighbourhoods are:

  • CKE (Chinook Park/Kelvin Grove/Eagle Ridge)
  • Huntington Hills
  • Southwood

The Chinook Park/Kelvin Grove/Eagle Ridge location will be a ‘skate spot’ (approximately half the size of a basketball court) while Huntington Hills and Southwood will receive ‘neighbourhood skateparks’, (roughly the size of a tennis court).

“We have been working closely with the Calgary Association of Skateboard Enthusiasts, or CASE, for many years developing the Skateboard Amenities Strategy and earlier this year we held open houses to gather feedback from skateboard enthusiasts and the general public,” said Greg Steinraths, City of Calgary Manager of Sport and Partnership Development, Recreation. “The feedback we got was amazing and with this input we are happy to be moving forward on the eight new parks.”

Communty meetings for residents of the neighbourhoods are scheduled for the following dates and times:

May 6 Huntington Hills (Huntington Hills and Thorncliffe residents only)

  • Huntington Hills Curling Club Lounge
  • 520 78 Ave. N.W.
  • 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

May 7 Southwood (residents only)

  • Southwood United Church
  • 10690 Elbow Dr. S.W

Members of the public are encouraged to provide input on the design of the new skateparks at an open house on Wednesday, April 30, between the hours of 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. at the site of the former Centennial Planetarium, 701 11 St. S.W.
