A restaurant in the city’s southeast was evacuated on Monday afternoon after carbon monoxide was detected in the building.

Fire crews were called to the Dragon Gate Restaurant in the 4400 block of 17 Avenue S.E. just after 4:00 p.m.

Fire officials say carbon monoxide readings as high as 280 parts per million were found in some areas.

The fire alarm was activated and people were evacuated from the business and some nearby apartments.

An ATCO gas crew was called in to assist while firefighters worked to ventilate the building.

Fire officials say a malfunctioning fryer in the restaurant's kitchen was leaking natural gas and carbon monoxide.

No injuries were reported in the incident and people were allowed back inside once crews cleared the CO from the building.
