As of Monday, over 10,000 homes in Calgary no longer receive door-to-door mail delivery.

The postal codes in Calgary which are impacted are those starting with T2B and T3J.

It is part of a five-year program by Canada Post to phase out door-to-door delivery.

The residents in the affected areas will now have to pick up their mail at super mailboxes located in their communities.

Canada Post estimates that by moving five million addresses to community mailboxes in the next five years will eventually save between $400 million and $500 million annually.

On Monday, service is changing for:

  • 10,450 addresses in Calgary
  • 26,400 addresses in Oakville, Ont.
  • 12,500 addresses in Winnipeg
  • 9,950 addresses in the Halifax neighbourhoods of Lower Sackville and Bedford
  • 8,450 addresses in Fort McMurray
  • 7,900 addresses in the Ottawa neighbourhood of Kanata
  • More than 24,000 addresses in the 5 bedrooms communities of Montreal
