A tow truck driver is in hospital after he was struck by a car while helping a stranded motorist on Deerfoot Trail on Monday night.

At about 7:30 p.m., EMS were called to the scene in the northbound lanes of Deerfoot Trail just before 16 Avenue for reports that a person had been hit by a car.

When they arrived at the scene, they found a man in his 30s, the tow truck driver, had been working on a disabled vehicle in the far left lane when he was struck.

Stuart Brideaux with EMS says the man was knocked onto the windshield of the car and then fell back onto the road.

He was taken to hospital in serious but stable condition, suffering from a broken leg.

The female driver was not injured in the crash.

Police are continuing to investigate.
