The Alberta Motor Vehicle Industry Council (AMVIC) has cancelled the business licence and salesperson registrations of a southeast consignment auto dealership following customer complaints resulting in a police investigation.
AMVIC’s decision prohibits the dealership from selling, consigning, leasing, or repairing vehicles.
Several customers, including Andrea Sherle, say Treadz Auto sold their vehicles but failed to pay them.
CTV Calgary’s Consumer Watch Reporter Lea Williams-Doherty investigated the complaints. On August 21, the owner of Treadz Auto, Sean O’Brien, said the late payments were the result of a financing issue, a problem which would be resolved in short time.
On Tuesday, the dealership closed its doors for good and the majority of the vehicles were removed from the dealership lot. Calgary police and the AMVIC state they did not move the vehicles and the current location of the cars and trucks is unknown.
The Calgary Police Service and AMVIC have launched investigations into Treadz Auto. The business has removed all computers from its location in the 8500 block of Fairmount Dr. S.E. and the company's website has been suspended.
