A Lethbridge court has convicted and sentenced a Vulcan mother accused of abducting her two daughters from their school in rural Alberta.

Trina Meisel pleaded guilty to abduction and breaching a court order in a Lethbridge court on Thursday.

Meisel’s daughters, aged 12 and six, disappeared in May during recess from a school near the community of Vulcan.

The trio was found about a week later, unharmed, at a campground in British Columbia following an Amber Alert issued by police.

Meisel has been sentenced to six months in prison and probation. With the credit for the time she has already served, she won’t be spending any more time behind bars.
