Thousands of apps are on the market for your smartphone and tablets to help you manage and maintain events in your life but what if you just want to cuddle? Well, there’s also an app for that.

Cuddlr is a location-based app for cuddling that shows the user where free cuddles are being offered in their area.

User ratings help to determine if the cuddler is good and you can also see how many successful and unsuccessful cuddles they have had in the past.

Some say paying for a snuggle like this with someone like Leo or Demi sounds fairly reasonable but paying between $35 and $260 for a totally platonic cuddle with a regular Joe sounds farfetched.

The owner of Vancouver’s ‘Cuddlery Spoon with me’ says the cost is really quite reasonable and everyone can benefit from it.

“North Americans are really not touching that much and a lot of people feel alone in big cities so people think it’s amazing,” said Marylen Reid from Cuddlery. “There’s a lot of cities that are showing how it’s beneficial so it’s really something that’s fundamental for human beings and if there’s a lack of it, actually there can be some effect and touch deprivation.”

Reid emphasizes that there is nothing covert or sexual about her business and webcam monitoring ensures that.

She is opening an Edmonton branch and is already looking for talent in Calgary.

Reid says many aspiring cuddlers have applied in Calgary but only a select few have what it takes to do the job.

“I love taking care of people. I’ve got that nurturing kind of personality and I thought, seeing as there’s actually a job I can use these skills at, why not?” said Cuddler Sinead Johnstone.

The Japanese came up with the idea and drop-in cuddle cafes have existed there for years.

Paid cuddle services are now popping up across North America.
