Friends and the Malyalee Cultural Association of Calgary have identified 24-year-old Yedu Dayal as the victim in Saturday evening's motorcycle crash in Panorama Hills.

Shortly after 6:00 p.m., Dayal was test riding a 2013 Suzuki SV 650 Sport Bike in the 100 block of Panamount Heights N.W. when he encountered pea gravel, lost control of the bike and struck a light standard.

EMS transported Dayal to Foothills Hospital in life-threatening condition but his injuries proved fatal. Dayal succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at the medical centre.

According to police, the rider was wearing a helmet and protective jacket at the time of the crash and did possess a valid class 6 licence.

Police believe speed and driver error contributed to the crash. Alcohol and drugs have been ruled out as contributing factors.

A memorial service for Yedu Dayal is scheduled for Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at McInnis & Holloway's Chapel of the Bells (obituary)
