A 20-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Kori Wesley whose body was found near the Chiniki Rodeo grounds on the weekend.

A family member, who lives near the grounds, found the 21-year-old’s body and police were called to the scene at about 3:15 p.m. on Sunday.

Tylen Tray Poucette was arrested without incident on Sunday and has been charged with second-degree murder.

An arrest warrant has also been issued for one young person in connection to the death, but they cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Lori Wesley, Kori’s mother, spoke to CTV News and said her son had hopes and dreams and his whole life ahead of him.

“For them to take that away from him, I find it so unfair. I hope they catch whoever’s responsible for his death, but that won’t matter because he’s not coming back,” she said.

Lori says Kori was out with some friends the night before and believes he met up with others later on.

She says he was a good son who was trying to turn his life around.

“He recently went up to Fort McMurray to help with the cleanup crew, he came back and said mom, I know I need to go out there and do something with my life. I thank you for always doing everything for me, I now know I have to change my life,” said Lori.

Poucette has been remanded in custody and his next court appearance is set for August 16, 2016 in Cochrane Provincial Court.
