The man charged with first-degree murder in connection to the shooting death of another man at a southeast barbershop won't be going to trial.

Redear Kadir-Shahwan,23, was charged with the death of 30-year-old Khalid El-Ajami at Johnny Scissorhands Barbershop in the 5100 block of 20 Avenue S.E. in November of 2015.

El-Ajami was shot multiple times and died at the scene despite efforts to save him.

He was known to Calgary police and investigators believe the shooting was a targeted attacked linked to an ongoing dispute between gangs connected to the drug trade.

On Friday, the Crown stayed the first-degree murder charge against Kadir-Shahwan.

Alberta Justice says the charges can be revived within a year as the crown reassesses the case. In this case, there were parallel investigations and further disclosure is expected.

The defence says there was ‘no reasonable likelihood of conviction based upon the evidence available’ and that the Crown made the right decision to stay the proceedings in the barbershop shooting case.

Kadir-Shahwan still faces an attempted murder charge from a shooting on Rundlehorn Drive N.E. back in January.
