Mayor Naheed Nenshi has announced his decision to seek re-election in Calgary’s next municipal vote.

The mayor’s decision was released in a video on the website, with volunteers from his 2010 campaign receiving notice of his intentions prior to the official public announcement.

Nenshi, and his purple army, defeated current MLA Ric McIver and former CTV anchor Barb Higgins in the 2010 election.

Nenshi was sworn in as Calgary’s 36th mayor on October 25, 2010.

According to Nenshi, the announcement will have little impact on his current duties, and it will be business as usual for the mayor and the other members of the council for the year remaining in his first term.
