New Brighton Athletic Park was officially unveiled on Saturday with a ceremony including representatives from both the provincial and municipal levels of government.

The recreation hub, located near the intersection of 130 Avenue and 52 Street Southeast, features:

  • Four rectangular natural turf fields
  • A natural turf baseball diamond
  • Playgrounds designed for ages 2 – 12
  • Unstructured activity spaces
  • Change rooms and public washrooms
  • A skateboard park (under construction)

The $17 million athletic park was funded through the province’s Municipal Sustainability Initiative ($13.5 million) and City of Calgary contributions ($3.5 million).

“It’s a great addition to southeast Calgary” said Mayor Naheed Nenshi. “One of many big additions in recreation facilities that we’re making in this part of the city where they’ve been really under served for way too long.”

Construction of the New Brighton Athletic Park began in 2014.
