A new campaign that hopes to see more women participate in political races made a stop in Calgary on Monday night.

Officials with Ready for Her are making their way through the province, engaging in talks with the hope that more women will evolve their love for their community into a campaign for municipal office.

The organization says that women only represent 26 percent of total elected officials at the municipal level.

The tour held a discussion at the University of Calgary which included speeches from past and present female politicians who say there is a thirst for knowledge among women today.

“A lot of women want to know about the experience of governing. They want to know what it’s going to be like once they’ve run and won. They want to know what to expect,” said Stephanie Mclean, Alberta’s Minister of the Status of Women.

The tour has already made stops in Edmonton and Medicine Hat.

It continues in Lethbridge later this week.
