Police have released photos of two men who may have information about the death of Harsimran Singh Birdi, who was found in a northeast alley in April of 2016.

Birdi, 20, was found dead lying in the alleyway in the 9700 block of Harvest Hills Link N.E. and police say he was the victim of a targeted attack.

“The victim in this case, Mr. Birdi, had no association to the particular area that he was located in. He didn’t live there. From our record keeping, from our information that we have through our data bases, he really had no association to that particular area. Nobody in the community knew where he was or who he was, which is a red flag for us to let us know that he is, I won’t say a stranger in that area, but he’s not known to that area, which leads us to believe that he was targeted and he was certainly, found deceased in that area,” Acting Inspector Paul Wozney of the CPS Homicide Unit.

His death was ruled a homicide and earlier this month police released images of two vehicles and a person of interest in the case.

Police located the person and one of the vehicles, a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder, which is currently being examined by forensics. The second vehicle, a 2002-2004 Chevrolet Venture, has not been found.

On Thursday, investigators released images of two men who they believe were with the victim in the hours before his death.

The first man is described as:

  • Middle Eastern descent
  • Between 163 and 168 cm or 5’4” and 5’6” tall
  • Medium build
  • Tattoo of a flag on his right forearm
  • Styles hair in a faux hawk

The second man is described as:

  • Middle Eastern descent
  • About 170 cm or 5’7” tall
  • Medium build
  • Slight beard

“We believe that there was some sort of a connection between the two. Again, although this offence happened in April of 2016, investigators are still trying to connect the dots between any persons of interest and our victim and again, part of it is, in releasing these images to our community, we are trying to get our community involved in this investigation,” said Wozney.

Investigators are asking anyone with information related to the identity of the persons of interest or the whereabouts of the Chevrolet Venture to please contact police by calling the non-emergency line at 403-266-1234, or the Homicide Unit Tip Line at 403-428-8877.
