The Alberta Energy Regulator ordered Nexen Energy to cease operations of 95 pipelines in Northeastern Alberta.

The order was issued Friday, August 28 due to what the regulator called non-compliance surrounding maintenance and monitoring of Nexen’s Long Lake oilsands project.

Alberta Energy regulator spokesman Bob Curran says every oil and gas company must monitor, inspect and maintain records for all their pipelines.

He says Nexen can’t show those activities occurred on those 95 pipelines and until it can they will remain shut down.
