A two-year-old boy was airlifted to hospital in Calgary after he was run over by a pickup truck that was backing out of a driveway in the community of Redwood Meadows on Friday morning.

Emergency crews were called to a home in the community, west of Calgary, at about 9:20 a.m. for reports that a child was struck by a vehicle.

EMS officials say the little boy was treated at the scene for a serious injury to his arm and other soft tissue injuries and was then flown by STARS to Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary.

The boy is in stable condition and EMS says his injuries are non-life threatening.

RCMP have determined a member of the boy's family was driving the work truck when the young boy, who was riding a bicycle, was struck.

Charges are not anticipated against the driver and investigators have ruled out alcohol as a contributing factor.
