Alberta Premier Rachel Notley will be in B.C. on Monday for meetings intended to change minds on a major pipeline expansion recently approved by the federal government.

She will be speaking with provincial representatives and industry leaders about Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain Pipeline and the issues that still stand in opposition.

The project still needs to clear a number of regulatory hurdles and faces stiff opposition from environmentalists, First Nations groups and Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson.

The pipeline proposes to triple the capacity of the existing line from near Edmonton to Burnaby and increase the tanker traffic from Vancouver.

As for other Canadian pipeline projects, New Brunswick’s Premier Brian Gallant is still working to make his voice hear over the Energy East pipeline.

He says that project would help support refineries in Eastern Canada by reducing their dependence on foreign oil and provide a safe way to get Alberta oil to the province.

The project is still under review by the National Energy Board, but those hearings were put on hold this fall after three of the panelists stepped down.

The federal government says that replacements will be appointed soon.
