Alberta Premier Rachel Notley’s new cabinet will be getting down to work in Calgary on Wednesday, meeting for the first time since being sworn in this weekend.

It was Notley's first time at McDougall Centre and the Premier will meet with her cabinet for two days.

As those meetings are underway, a new poll has been released that gives us a glimpse about what Albertans think about the new NDP government and Rachel Notley as a leader.

The survey, conducted by Mainstreet Technologies, asked about 3,000 Albertans about a series of issues, including their approval rating of Notley.

That number sits at about 62 percent approval of her leadership, with just 28 percent disapproving of her in the role.

About the issues that came up during the election, namely Notley’s vow for a royalty review, Albertans seem warm to the idea.

65 percent of those polled think the government should conduct such a review of oil and natural gas to ensure Alberta are getting their fair share from energy development in the province.

However, carbon tax seems to be something that Albertans want to avoid, with just over half opposing taxing greenhouse gas emissions. 42 percent approve of the idea.

Notley met with the media and stressed that the changes she wants to make will not be drastic, but says her government plans to keep its promises.

"Frankly, as a government, we have an obligation to the people of this province to periodically test to make sure that we're doing the best we can for them in terms of our royalty regime. We were very clear about that during the campaign," said Notely.

She says her government is still being briefed on the issues but says there will be an announcement on Thursday on education funding.
