Parks Canada crews continue to clear debris from the Trans-Canada Highway near Field and a single lane of the highway has reopened to alternating traffic.

The highway was shut down on Monday after a massive rock slide was triggered by crews blasting in the area.

The slide occurred about 16 km west of Field and parks officials say about 10,000 cubic metres of rock was released on the roadway.

Geotechnical assessments show the slope failed below the drilling and blasting area along natural seams in the shale bedrock.

Two workers were taken to hospital with minor injuries and have been released.

Crews are working to stabilize the rock and have graded the gravel on the shoulder but weather has delayed the paving operation.

Motorists are encouraged to use Highway 95 and Highway 93S through Kootenay National Park in the meantime.
