A 28-year-old man is in police custody following Thursday afternoon’s robbery of the TD Canada Trust in Okotoks.

According to police, the suspect entered the branch, located on Southridge Drive, at approximately 3:00 p.m.

The armed man approached a teller and produced a note demanding money. The employee complied with the suspect’s orders and the man fled the branch with an undisclosed amount of cash.

RCMP members were deployed and, utilizing surveillance camera footage and a tip from the public, the suspect was located near the Okotoks Public Library.

The suspect attempted to flee from police on foot and officers gave chase. The suspected bank robber was apprehended a short distance from the library.

Gareth Edward Denman, a 28-year-old from Cultus Lake, British Columbia who recently relocated to Calgary, faces charges related to the armed robbery.

RCMP have not revealed Denman’s weapon of choice or whether the weapon has been located and seized.
