RCMP says one man was killed and two other people sent to hospital when the car they were driving slammed into the side of a truck on Monday evening.

At about 6:20 p.m. on July 27, emergency crews were called to the scene of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 11 and Highway 756, located about 10 km west of the community of Rocky Mountain House.

Police say three people were in a small car traveling southbound on Highway 756 when they failed to stop at the stop sign marking the intersection.

The car ran into the loaded quad trailer of a passing gravel truck which was eastbound on Highway 11.

As a result, a passenger in the car, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, also a man in his 20s, was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released. The third person, a 17-year-old girl, was taken to hospital in Red Deer via ground ambulance, where she is listed in stable condition.

The 52-year-old driver of the truck was treated and released at the scene.

Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
